The metallic layer inside the tape can be located using compatible underground detection equipment. If excavation reaches the tape, its bright color and printed warning message also provide a visual warning before the buried utility is reached.
Detectable warning tape contains a metallic layer that can be located using suitable detection equipment. Non-detectable warning tape does not contain a metallic layer and mainly provides a visual warning during excavation.
The tape should be stored in a dry, clean place away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, moisture and sharp objects. Rolls should remain in their original packaging until installation whenever possible.
The suitable width depends on the utility type and project specification. Common widths include 50 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm. Wider tape provides a larger visible warning area during excavation.
